Who we are

EarthShare NC provides opportunities for individuals ​and businesses to actively participate with ​environmental nonprofits to create healthy, sustainable ​communities across North Carolina.

The information inside spotlights our North Carolina ​Nonprofit Members’ impact over the past year. From ​Advocacy to Wildlife, these organizations are working ​each day to mitigate the threats of climate change and ​create innovative solutions to build resilient ​ecosystems and communities across the state.

ADVOCATING for Equitable Climate Policies.

Advocating for vastly ​expanded investment in ​renewable energy sources ​and push back against ​Duke Energy’s ever-​expanding ambition to ​build a new generation of ​fossil-fueled power plants ​in our state.

Their grassroots base of over ​55k email activists and over ​20k text alert subscribers sent ​emails and made phone calls ​to their decision-makers to ​reduce carbon emissions, ​increase clean energy, clean ​up forever chemicals, fight for ​environmental justice, and ​build resilient communities.

Legally fighting to keep ​the Pisgah & Nantahala ​National Forests from ​Logging as well as ​fighting against the ​constant motion of ​invasive plant species ​to North Carolina.

Their Power the Vote ​team registered almost ​10,000 voters, knocked ​on 12,900 doors to turn ​people out to vote, and ​had almost 4,000 ​conversations about the ​power of voting.

1,351 supporters sent 9,091 ​messages to policymakers, ​300+ Farmers received direct ​technical assistance focused ​on NRCS and other USDA ​programs., and 16 NC farmers ​participating in RAFI's Farm ​and Faith Partnership Project ​CSAs earned $110K in ​additional income.

Advancing Clean Energy and AIR for All

Through their Community Science ​program, Volunteer Air Keepers take ​measurements, track, and help interpret ​local air quality using air monitoring ​devices. All across the state, communities ​and scientists can use the collected data ​to make a difference in the air we breathe.

Advocating for new and expanded large ​customer clean energy programs to ​ensure companies and organizations with ​clean energy goals have the pathways ​available to deploy those technologies on-​site and throughout the state.

Promoting responsible and equitable ​energy choices to ensure clean, safe, ​and healthy communities throughout ​the Southeast.

Published 59 thought-leadership pieces to ​inform the public about sustainability ​issues like the Charlotte Area Transit ​System (CATS) on-demand micro-transit ​pilot, Charlotte’s bikeability rankings, the ​climate crisis and what residents can do at ​a local level to mitigate it, and more.

Conserving LAND for Healthy Communities & Resources

Supports the Schools in ​Parks Program that ​ensures every NC 4th and ​5th grader can visit a State ​Park, and offers grants to ​Local Friends Groups and ​State Park Staff to ​complete projects and ​programs not covered by ​tax dollars.

Opened four new ​sections of the ​Mountains-to-Sea Trail ​for a total of almost 5 ​new miles of off-road ​across the state in Surry, ​Guilford, Johnston, and ​Bladen counties.

Protected more than ​2,300 acres of land across ​eastern NC and engaged ​more than 4,800 people ​in their environmental ​education programs.

The DIG program ​provided meaningful ​paid internships to six ​Durham teens teaching ​gardening skills, as well ​as project planning and ​implementation, ​marketing, and public ​speaking.

Provided the equivalence ​of 400 residents per ​month with a box of ​fresh nutritious fruits, ​vegetables, and eggs ​grown by NC Farmers.

Working for Clean WATER & Healthy Ecosystems

Lobbied to amend the N.C. Building Code to include ​residential docks and piers, as well as prohibited the sale ​of encapsulated polystyrene in all 20 coastal counties.

Launched the Litter-Free Rivers program as part of a ​statewide study on microplastics: where they come ​from, how they get in waterways, how long it takes ​them to break down.

Protected 48,785 acres of mountains, rivers, forests, ​and farms, and connected people to nature through ​421 community events.

Hosted 25 on-the-water programs, taught ​1,817 K-12 students about their watershed, and ​organized 94 cleanup events.

Protected 23,700+ acres of farms, forest, and ​wildlife habitat and 207+ miles of streams across ​their 8-county region.

Raised $5,000 dollars for trails and preserves ​and protected 1599 acres of land.

Protecting & Restoring WILDLIFE & Their Habitats

Funded a bat survey of threatened or ​endangered species along the Parkway ​corridor, and coordinated the removal of ​plane wreckage that was causing the ​trampling of rare plant species at ​Waterrock Knob.

Has over 100 people participate in the Fall ​2022 Raptor Academy, 26 people in the ​Fall 2022 Raptor Ambassador Course, and ​30 people in the 2023 Raptor Care & ​Husbandry Course.

The addition of four new species—Red ​Wolves, a New Guinea Singing Dog, a ​Racoon, and Asian Leopard Cats—has ​significantly expanded rescue efforts ​by facilitating collaboration with ​prominent rescue organizations and ​enhancing educational opportunities.

Participated in 114 habitat restoration ​projects that removed 115,785 lbs of litter ​and planted 5,323 trees and plants. This ​year marked a significant achievement for ​The Butterfly Highway, reaching a total of ​3,000 registered pollinator pitstops over ​the program’s lifetime!
